Marley Moves is a family-run removals company based in Shaftesbury, SP7. From there our in-house team covers Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, providing house removals, packing, storage, clearances and UK-wide long-distance moves.

Most of our local work is concentrated around North Dorset, South Somerset and south and west Wiltshire, with regular routes through Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Sherborne, Wincanton, Mere, Yeovil, Frome, Warminster, Salisbury and the surrounding towns and villages. We also cover Dorchester, Weymouth, Bath, Bournemouth and Poole and run long-distance moves throughout the UK.

Every move is handled by Marley Moves' own team rather than subcontracted to a third party. You receive the scope and price in writing, and where a survey is needed we confirm the fixed price before move day.

Public liability insurance up to £2.5 million and goods-in-transit cover up to £50,000 per load. Company number 15914266. Any change to the agreed scope is discussed and priced before the work is carried out.

Somerset removal areas

Our Shaftesbury yard sits close to the Dorset and Somerset border, putting South Somerset and the A303, A30 and A359 corridors within regular reach. We work routes through Yeovil, Wincanton, Bruton, Frome, Bath and the surrounding towns and villages, as well as UK-wide relocations starting or finishing in Somerset. Why Marley

Your trusted, reliable removals team

Marley Moves is large enough to run multi-van moves and small enough that you speak to Connor directly from first call to settle-in. Owner-run, family-run, with our own in-house crew on every job.

Every job goes out with the same in-house Marley crew. We don't subcontract. That means the people who survey your move are the people who pack the boxes, load the truck and unload at the other end. No miscommunication, no “sorry, that wasn't in our notes”, no scope creep on the invoice.

Fixed-price quotes are the default. We tell you the number in writing within the hour, and that number is what you pay, provided the job we packed for is the job that turns up on the day. What you see in writing is what you pay on the day, with no “extras” we forgot to mention.

And every Marley move is properly insured: £2.5 million public liability, £50,000 goods-in-transit cover per load. The insurance certificate is in the email along with your quote so you don't have to ask.

Our best-in-class moving service

Every removal service, one in-house crew

Most house moves combine more than one of these. Quote them together and you get one number, one schedule, one crew, not three separate suppliers.

How it works

How a Marley move actually works

Four steps from first call to handing you the keys at the other end. Most local Dorset moves complete inside a single working day on this timeline.

  1. 01

    Free quote, within the hour

Call, WhatsApp or fill the quote form. Connor replies with a written quote within the hour, usually fixed straight away.

  2. 02

    Free in-person pre-move survey

In-person by default. Connor walks the property with you, sees access, stairs and awkward items, and locks the fixed price in. Every move, regardless of size. We'll only fall back to a quick video walk-through if we can't reach you in person.

  3. 03

    We pack and load

Crew arrives in branded vans on the morning. Boxes labelled by room, fragile items wrapped, furniture blanket-wrapped. You're free to do the school run while we work.

  4. 04

We unload and settle you in

Beds reassembled, sofas in position, boxes in the right rooms. Walk-through before we leave. You sleep in your own bed that night.

Pricing

What does a removal cost?

Every move is priced individually, and we send a written quote within the hour of your enquiry. It is usually fixed straight away; if a survey is needed, we confirm the fixed price afterwards. Three things set it: the volume you're moving (rooms, and how full they are), the access at both ends (stairs, parking, how close the truck can get), and how much of the packing you want us to do. Long-distance UK moves are quoted as a fixed price per route, depending on origin, destination and volume.

The number you get includes VAT, our standard public-liability and goods-in-transit insurance, fuel inside our normal coverage area, and basic furniture protection (blankets, straps, door guards). What can move the price: stairs above the second floor, restricted access for the truck, very heavy or specialist items (pianos, safes, gym equipment), weekend or bank-holiday work, or accumulated parking costs in city centres like Bath or Salisbury. All of it is settled in the written quote, not on the day.

For an exact figure fast: call, WhatsApp or fill in the quote form with your rough size and both postcodes. For larger homes we'll do a free pre-move survey before fixing the price, so the number in writing is the number you pay.

Useful guide

Moving house checklist, 8 weeks to go

We get asked this a lot, so here's the rough timeline we walk customers through during the survey. Adjust to your own pace, a 2-bed flat doesn't need 8 weeks; a 5-bed family home with three storage options often needs more.

8 weeks before

Get 2-3 written removal quotes. Sort buildings + contents insurance for your new place. Tell schools / nurseries / employer your move date. Start a dedicated moving folder (paper or digital) for everything that follows.

4 weeks before

Confirm removal date and book us in writing. Notify utilities (gas, electric, water, broadband, council tax, both old and new addresses). Begin decluttering room by room, anything you haven't used in 12 months goes to the charity pile or in the “Marley clearance” pile if you want us to take it on completion day.

2 weeks before

Book parking permits at both ends if you're in a city (Bath, Salisbury, Bournemouth). Update the post-redirect with Royal Mail. Refill prescriptions and pack a 7-day medications bag separately. Take photos of the back of your TV / hi-fi wiring before disconnecting anything.

1 week before

If you're self-packing, finish all rooms except the kitchen and the bathroom. Defrost the freezer 48 hours ahead. Pack a clearly-labelled “essentials” box for night one (kettle, mugs, bedding, phone chargers, toilet roll, toothbrushes, a bottle opener).

Move day

Final meter readings (photographed). Keys exchanged with the agent. Walk through with our crew lead before you lock up. The essentials box travels in the cab with you, not the back of the truck.

Frequent questions

What people ask before they book a Dorset removal

How much does a house removal cost?

Local house moves are priced on the property: how much you're moving, the access at both ends, and whether you want us to do the packing. Long-distance UK moves are quoted as a fixed price per route. Either way we send a written quote within the hour. It is usually fixed straight away; if we need a survey, we confirm the fixed price afterwards, before move day.

How quickly can you give me a quote?

We aim to send a written quote within the hour of your enquiry by email or WhatsApp. Depending on the size, access and complexity of the move, that may be the fixed price straight away or we may confirm it after a free video or in-person survey. Either way, the final price is agreed in writing before move day.

Do you cover Bournemouth and Poole?

Yes, Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the BH-coast postcodes are part of our regular work, even though they sit 28 to 32 miles from our Shaftesbury yard. We schedule those moves around our regular south-coast routes so the price stays sensible.

Do you do storage as well as removals?

Yes. We offer safe, secure containerised storage for between-move scenarios (a few weeks) and longer-term needs (months). Storage is quoted alongside your removal so you only deal with one company and one number.

Can you do small moves and man-and-van work, or just full house moves?

Both. Small moves (single rooms, studios, light loads) and full house removals are all quoted as fixed prices in writing before move day, so there's no meter ticking and no surprise on the invoice. Same in-house crew either way, we don't subcontract small jobs out.

Do you handle the packing as well?

Yes, full or part packing can be added to a removal. We use appropriate boxes, packing paper, protective wrap and furniture protection for the items being moved. Many customers ask us to handle the kitchen, glassware and other fragile items while they pack clothes, books and bedding themselves.

Are you available at weekends?

Yes, subject to crew availability. Saturdays are popular, and Sunday or bank-holiday moves can also be arranged where the diary allows. If the day changes the price, that will be shown clearly in the written quote before you book.
