Removals coverage
Removals across Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire
Sixteen towns covered weekly from our Shaftesbury, SP7 yard and our Henstridge, BA8 yard, plus UK-wide long-distance moves to anywhere from London to the Lake District.
Marley Moves is a Dorset removal company, family-run, in-house, based in Shaftesbury, SP7, with a Henstridge yard in Somerset (BA8). From those two depots, Connor and his small crew cover the corner where Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire meet, running house removals, packing, storage, clearances and long-distance UK moves across sixteen core towns every week.
Most of our work sits inside a 25-mile radius of Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Sherborne, Wincanton, Mere, Bruton, Blandford Forum, Yeovil, Frome and Warminster all fall inside that band. Beyond that we still travel often to Salisbury, Dorchester, Weymouth, Bath, Bournemouth and Poole on day-rate work, and we run UK-wide long-distance removals from Dorset to anywhere, London, Bristol, the Midlands, Yorkshire, the Lake District, Cornwall and Scotland are all routes we drive several times a year.
Every move is run by the same in-house Marley crew, never subcontracted out to a third party. You speak to Connor, you get a written fixed-price quote inside two working hours, and the people who quote your move are the same people who load the van. That consistency is what every five-star Google review on this site is built on.
Public liability insurance up to £2.5 million; goods-in-transit cover up to £50,000 per load. Registered waste carrier for the clearance side. Company number 15914266. No hidden fees, no padded hours, no last-minute price hikes on the day.

Removals by county across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire
Dorset removals
Dorset is our home county. The yard sits in Shaftesbury, Dorset, and we run daily removals across the full DT, BH and SP postcode spread, with active routes into Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Blandford Forum, Dorchester, Weymouth, Bournemouth and Poole. As Dorset removal companies go we're on the smaller end (family-run, in-house crew, no franchise relationships), which suits the way we work. See the full Dorset coverage at Removals Dorset →
Somerset removals
Our Henstridge, BA8 yard sits on the Dorset and Somerset border, which puts us inside the BA postcode catchment for Yeovil, Wincanton, Bruton, Frome and the surrounding villages. Daily Somerset removals across the south of the county, plus same-day reach into Bath and Glastonbury. Somerset-to-anywhere-UK is one of our most common long-distance patterns. Full Somerset coverage at Removals Somerset →
Wiltshire removals
Wiltshire removals from our Shaftesbury yard cover the SP and BA12 postcodes (Salisbury, Warminster, Mere and the surrounding villages), plus same-day reach into Trowbridge, Westbury and Bradford-on-Avon. We're a regular fixture for Cathedral Close listed-property moves in Salisbury and the larger downs property moves around Warminster. Full Wiltshire coverage at Removals Wiltshire →
Why Marley
Your trusted, reliable Dorset removal company
Most removal companies in Dorset are either a one-van outfit who can't scale, or a national chain who'll quote remotely and send a contractor crew you've never met. We sit in between, large enough to run multi-van moves, small enough that you speak to Connor directly from first call to settle-in.
Every job goes out with the same in-house Marley crew. We don't subcontract. That means the people who survey your move are the people who pack the boxes, load the truck and unload at the other end. No miscommunication, no “sorry, that wasn't in our notes”, no scope creep on the invoice.
Fixed-price quotes are the default. We tell you the number in writing inside two working hours, and that number is what you pay, provided the job we packed for is the job that turns up on the day. What you see in writing is what you pay on the day, with no “extras” we forgot to mention.
And every Marley move is properly insured: £2.5 million public liability, £50,000 goods-in-transit cover per load. The insurance certificate is in the email along with your quote so you don't have to ask.
Our best-in-class moving service
Every removal service, one in-house crew
Most house moves combine more than one of these. Quote them together and you get one number, one schedule, one crew, not three separate suppliers.
Studios to 5-bed homes. Fixed-price, fully insured, in-house crew.
Man & Van →Single rooms, studios, IKEA hauls, single-item pickups. Fixed-price quotes in writing, fully insured.
Packing Services →Full or part packing, kitchen, china, art, antiques. Proper materials.
Storage →Containerised, secure, monitored. Short-term between moves or long-term.
Long-Distance UK Removals →Dorset to anywhere, same crew end-to-end, fixed price per route.
House Clearances →Probate, downsizing, end-of-tenancy. Registered waste carrier, sensitively done.
How it works
How a Marley move actually works
Four steps from first call to handing you the keys at the other end. Most local Dorset moves complete inside a single working day on this timeline.
- 01
Free quote, in 2 hours
Call, WhatsApp or fill the quote form. Connor replies the same day with a written, fixed-price quote, usually inside two working hours, often inside one.
- 02
Free in-person pre-move survey
In-person by default. Connor walks the property with you, sees access, stairs and awkward items, and locks the fixed price in. Every move, regardless of size. We'll only fall back to a quick video walk-through if we can't reach you in person.
- 03
We pack and load
Crew arrives in branded vans on the morning. Boxes labelled by room, fragile items wrapped, furniture blanket-wrapped. You're free to do the school run while we work.
- 04
We unload and settle you in
Beds reassembled, sofas in position, boxes in the right rooms. Walk-through before we leave. You sleep in your own bed that night.
Indicative pricing
What does a removal cost?
Honest indicative pricing for local moves below. Long-distance UK moves are quoted as a fixed price per route, typically from £1,800 depending on origin, destination and volume. Final figure always confirmed in writing before you commit.
1 van, 2 crew, half-day local. Add from £200 for full packing.
1 van, 2-3 crew, full local day. Most second-mover jobs.
Larger van or 2 vans, 3 crew, full day. Pre-move survey recommended.
Multi-van, 3-4 crew, sometimes 2 days. Always pre-move survey.
Crockery, art, antiques and breakables, all wrapped properly. Add to any tier above.
Containerised, secure, monitored. Combined quote with your move.
Prices include VAT, our standard public-liability and goods-in-transit insurance, fuel inside our normal coverage area, and basic furniture protection (blankets, straps, door guards). What can move the price: stairs above the second floor, restricted access for the truck, very heavy or specialist items (pianos, safes, gym equipment), weekend or bank-holiday work, or accumulated parking costs in city centres like Bath or Salisbury.
Useful guide
Moving house checklist, 8 weeks to go
We get asked this a lot, so here's the rough timeline we walk customers through during the survey. Adjust to your own pace, a 2-bed flat doesn't need 8 weeks; a 5-bed family home with three storage options often needs more.
8 weeks before
Get 2-3 written removal quotes. Sort buildings + contents insurance for your new place. Tell schools / nurseries / employer your move date. Start a dedicated moving folder (paper or digital) for everything that follows.
4 weeks before
Confirm removal date and book us in writing. Notify utilities (gas, electric, water, broadband, council tax, both old and new addresses). Begin decluttering room by room, anything you haven't used in 12 months goes to the charity pile or in the “Marley clearance” pile if you want us to take it on completion day.
2 weeks before
Book parking permits at both ends if you're in a city (Bath, Salisbury, Bournemouth). Update the post-redirect with Royal Mail. Refill prescriptions and pack a 7-day medications bag separately. Take photos of the back of your TV / hi-fi wiring before disconnecting anything.
1 week before
If you're self-packing, finish all rooms except the kitchen and the bathroom. Defrost the freezer 48 hours ahead. Pack a clearly-labelled “essentials” box for night one (kettle, mugs, bedding, phone chargers, toilet roll, toothbrushes, a bottle opener).
Move day
Final meter readings (photographed). Keys exchanged with the agent. Walk through with our crew lead before you lock up. The essentials box travels in the cab with you, not the back of the truck.

Frequent questions
What people ask before they book a Dorset removal
How much does a house removal cost?
Local house moves are priced by property size, fixed in writing before the day. Studio or 1-bed flats from £600, 2-bed homes from £800, 3-bed family homes from £1,050, and 4-5 bed homes from £1,600. Add from £200 for full packing. Long-distance UK moves are quoted as a fixed price per route. We confirm the exact figure in writing within two working hours.
How quickly can you give me a quote?
Within two working hours of your enquiry, by email or WhatsApp. For larger 4+ bed moves we may want to do a free pre-move survey (10 minutes on a video call, or in person) before fixing the price, but you'll have an indicative figure the same day either way.
Do you cover Bournemouth and Poole?
Yes, Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and the BH-coast postcodes are part of our regular work, even though they sit ~35 miles from our Shaftesbury yard. We schedule those moves around our weekly south-coast routes so the price stays sensible.
Are you BAR registered?
No. We're not a member of the British Association of Removers. We hold £2.5m public liability insurance and £50k goods-in-transit cover per load, our quotes are written and fixed, and we have a 5.0 five-star Google rating across every town we cover, but if BAR membership is a hard requirement for you, we're not the right firm.
Do you do storage as well as removals?
Yes. We run containerised storage out of our Shaftesbury yard for between-move scenarios (a few weeks) and longer-term needs (months). Storage is quoted alongside your removal so you only deal with one company and one number.
Can you do small moves and man-and-van work, or just full house moves?
Both. Small moves (single rooms, studios, light loads) and full house removals are all quoted as fixed prices in writing before move day, so there's no meter ticking and no surprise on the invoice. Same in-house crew either way, we don't subcontract small jobs out.
Do you handle the packing as well?
Yes, full or part packing as an add-on to any removal. Crockery, art, glassware, antiques: proper materials throughout (acid-free tissue, double-walled crates for fragile, blanket-wrap for furniture). Most customers add part packing for the kitchen and the breakables and self-pack everything else.
Are you available at weekends?
Yes. Saturday is one of our busiest days. Sunday and bank holiday work is available with advance notice, there's a small premium on the day rate but we don't refuse the job.
