Service

Professional Packing Services across Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire

Marley Moves runs full and part packing services across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, with proper materials and a methodical room-by-room approach. We use proper materials throughout: acid-free tissue for crockery and ornaments, double-walled boxes labelled by room, bubble wrap and foam for art and electronics, double-walled crates for the most fragile pieces, blanket-wrap on every item of furniture. Most customers add part packing for the kitchen and breakables (the bits where things go wrong if you do it yourself in the last 48 hours) and self-pack the books, clothes and bedding. Full packing, entire house, is offered for time-pressed moves, families who simply don't have the bandwidth, and properties with serious antique or art content. Pricing depends on volume: typically £100 – £700 added to a standard removal. Quoted in writing within two working hours.

5.0 ★★★★★ Google rating · Family-run · Insured £2.5m · Or call 01747 637070

What's included

  • Acid-free tissue + bubble wrap

Acid-free white tissue for crockery, ornaments and ceramics. Bubble wrap and foam for picture frames, mirrors, electronics. Industrial-grade, not the corner-shop version.

  • Double-walled boxes, labelled

Small for books and breakables, medium for general contents, large for bedding and soft furnishings. Every box labelled with room and contents on the side, so unpacking goes to the right rooms first time.

  • Double-walled crates for the fragile

Genuinely valuable or breakable pieces (collections, lamps, glassware, ceramics worth keeping) go into double-walled bespoke crates with internal padding. Used wherever the standard box would be a risk.

  • Blanket-wrap on furniture

Sofas, dressers, beds, dining tables, every item of furniture gets wrapped in moving blankets and secured with stretch film for the journey. Standard, not an upgrade.

  • Same crew that does the removal

The people who pack are the people who load and unload. No handover risk, no "sorry, we don't have notes on that", they remember what they wrapped and where it goes.

  • Insurance covers the pack

£50k goods-in-transit cover per load includes packed contents under our materials. Higher cover available on request for art, antiques, collections over £50k.

Near you

Packing services near me, what's in our radius

When customers search "packing services near me" they usually want full-pack-the-day-before-you-move help on a tight timeline. We run packing across the same 25-mile radius as our removals (Shaftesbury yard plus Henstridge yard), so the sixteen towns inside that band, including Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Wincanton, Yeovil, Salisbury, Frome and Bath, are all on the standard packing schedule. Bigger jobs (full packs of 4-bed plus homes) get a two-day window so nothing's rushed. Smaller packs (kitchen-and-fragile only) typically run as a single-day visit on the day before move day. Same in-house crew that loads your van the next morning, so there's no handover risk between two suppliers.

Honest scope

What our packers will and won't do

It saves everyone a row on move day if we're clear about scope upfront. Our packing crews will: pack every box for you (kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, garage, attic, the lot), wrap furniture in moving blankets, use acid-free tissue for ceramics and double-walled crates for fragile glass, label every box by room and contents, take down freestanding shelving and reassemble it at the new place, and disconnect plug-in appliances. They won't: take down curtain poles screwed into the wall, deep-clean the property after packing, disconnect hard-wired appliances (gas hobs, hard-wired ovens, integrated dishwashers, that's a plumber or electrician's job), pack live plants or paint cans (insurance won't cover them in transit), or pack things into someone else's already-half-packed boxes (we end up double-packing or leaving a gap in the inventory either way). If you'd like us to handle the curtain poles or the cleaning as a separate add-on, we'll quote those alongside the pack rather than bundle them.

Who it's for

  • Time-pressed moves (sale completion week, work commitments, relocations on a deadline)
  • Families with young kids, pack day is impossible to manage solo
  • Period properties with significant antique furniture and breakables
  • Art and collectibles, proper crating and tissue beats DIY every time
  • Anyone who'd rather pay £200 than spend 3 evenings boxing the kitchen
  • Move-day-only packs where you've boxed the easy stuff and want help with the rest

Frequent questions

What people ask about Packing

from £200 for a 1-bed flat full pack, from £200 for a 3-bed home, from £400 for a 4-5 bed family home. Part packing (kitchen + breakables only, you handle the rest) is typically around half those numbers. Quoted alongside your removal, no double-trip or set-up fees because we're already on site for the move.

Full packing makes sense if you're time-pressed (sale completion week, work commitments), have a lot of fragile contents (collections, art, antiques), or simply want it done properly without the box-cutter stress. Part packing, typically the kitchen and breakables, is what most of our customers add on; the rest of the house is yours to box up at your own pace using materials we drop off.

Acid-free white tissue paper for crockery and ornaments, double-walled cardboard boxes (small for books and breakables, medium for general, large for bedding), bubble wrap and foam for picture frames and electronics, blanket-wrap for furniture, double-walled crates for the most fragile pieces, ratchet straps and shrink film for the journey. All boxes labelled by room.

Yes, collections are routine work for us. Each piece individually wrapped in acid-free tissue, packed standing where possible, framed art double-faced with foam corners and bubble-wrapped flat in custom cardboard sleeves, large framed pieces crated. We carry £50,000 goods-in-transit cover per load and can extend it for higher-value contents on request.

Both options. For a 1-2 bed full pack we usually do it the morning of the move, an hour or two before loading. For 3-bed-plus homes we'll often pack 1-2 days ahead so move day itself is just loading the labelled boxes, much smoother. We work around your schedule; the survey conversation tells us what's right.

Yes, unpacking is offered as an add-on. Most customers want the kitchen and the bedrooms unpacked (essentials in the right cupboards, beds made up that day) and self-unpack the rest at their pace. Full unpacking adds typically from £200 to a standard removal but means you walk into a properly set-up home rather than a wall of boxes.

Yes, we'll supply boxes, tissue paper, bubble wrap and tape at material-cost prices, dropped off a week before move day. Most customers self-pack the books, clothes and non-fragile items and ask us to do the kitchen + breakables. Best of both worlds, lowest total cost.

House Clearances

Sensitive, licensed, properly insured

Marley Moves runs sensitive house clearances across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, probate, downsizing, end-of-tenancy, post-bereavement, hoarder-property situations. We hold an Upper Tier Waste Carriers Licence with the Environment Agency (so we can legally remove and tip waste, many cheaper outfits can't), and we route donatable items to our regular charity partners (Sue Ryder, Salvation Army, Air Ambulance) rather than straight to landfill. Probate clearances are a substantial part of what we do, we work to the executor's or solicitor's timeline, photograph rooms before starting, identify items the family wants kept or rehomed, and only landfill what genuinely can't be saved. Free pre-clearance visit before any quote, so the price reflects what you actually want cleared rather than a worst-case estimate from photographs. Most jobs run a single day; bigger probate properties (4-5 bed, decades of accumulation) split across two.

House Removals

Fixed-price written quotes in 2 hours

Marley Moves is a Dorset house removals company, family-run from our yard in Shaftesbury, SP7, with a Henstridge yard in Somerset, BA8. We move studios to 5-bed family homes across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, plus UK-wide long-distance removals from Dorset to anywhere from London to the Lake District. You speak to Connor directly from the first call to the keys-in-hand at the new place. Most of our work clusters in a triangle between Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Warminster, with regular runs out to Salisbury, Bath, Bournemouth and Poole. We're not the cheapest Dorset removal company, though we're typically 10–25% under the national-chain quote, and we're not BAR registered. What we are: properly insured, properly equipped, on time. That consistency is what every five-star Google review on this site is built on.

Long Distance

Same crew, end-to-end, fixed price per route

Marley Moves runs long-distance UK removals from Dorset to anywhere in the country. London, Bristol, Bath, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cornwall, the Lake District, Wales, all routes we drive several times a year. One truck, one route, one crew that sleeps overnight if the destination is too far for a single working day. Most single-day routes (Dorset to London / Bristol / the South West) complete in a long working day. Further destinations (Manchester, Edinburgh, Cornwall extremes) become 2-day moves with the crew overnighting at the destination so the same hands unload the next morning. Free pre-move survey for any 3-bed-plus home, video or in-person depending on access at the loading end. We also do the reverse, collecting from London / the Midlands / the North and delivering to Dorset, Somerset or Wiltshire, and combine outbound + inbound jobs where possible to keep the pricing competitive against the national chains.
