Storage Near Me, Cheap Containerised Units across Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire

Marley Moves runs containerised storage at our Shaftesbury yard for customers across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. From £30 per week per container, secure, alarmed, monitored, and quoted alongside your removal so you only deal with one company and one number. Most of our storage work falls into one of two patterns: short-term between-completion-date storage (a couple of weeks while contracts line up), or longer-term storage for downsizing, international moves, or trial-period relocations. Each timber container holds roughly a 2-3 bed home; we offer half-container space too for 1-bed and studio loads. Insured, sealed, accessible by appointment, with the in-and-out logistics handled by the same office Connor uses for the removal itself.

What's included

  • Containerised, sealed storage

Sealed timber containers at our Shaftesbury yard. Each container holds the contents of a 2-3 bed home; half-containers available for smaller loads. Sealed at packing, broken only when you ask.

  • Secure, monitored, alarmed

Restricted-access yard, on-site monitoring, alarmed containers. Standard insurance against fire, water and theft included up to a per-container value agreed at the start.

  • From £30 per week

Pay-as-you-go weekly billing, no minimum lock-in beyond the first week. Longer terms (3+ months) discounted to around £25/week. Half-container £20/week.

  • Combined with your removal

The same crew that loads at your old place packs the container at our yard. One company, one quote, one bill, instead of co-ordinating a remover and a storage company separately.

  • Access by appointment

24 hours' notice and we'll pull your container to ground level for easy access. Most customers don't need access during the storage period, so we keep containers stacked to save you money.

  • Insurance included

£2.5m public liability + per-container fire/water/theft cover. For high-value contents (over £50,000) we can extend cover; the certificate ships with your quote so you can see the limits before committing.

Who it's for

  • Between-completion storage when contracts don't line up perfectly
  • Downsizing, keep the larger items until you decide what to do with them
  • International moves, store the UK contents while you set up overseas
  • Probate and inheritance, secure storage while the estate is settled
  • Renovation projects, clear the house, store the contents, move back in clean
  • Long-term storage for second properties, holiday homes, sentimental items

Storage near you, what "near me" actually means

When you search "storage near me," the real questions are how close the yard is, when you can get in, and what it actually costs. Two of those depend on us. The third is fixed by the size of the container. Our containerised storage sits in two yards: Ash Cottage on Sherborne Causeway in Shaftesbury, Dorset (SP7 9PX), and a second site at Yeovil in Somerset. From there we collect and deliver across a 25-mile radius covering Gillingham, Sherborne, Mere, Wincanton, Yeovil, Bruton, Warminster, Frome, Blandford Forum, Salisbury, Dorchester, Bath, Weymouth, Bournemouth and Poole. Same-day longer runs into Bath and the rest of Wiltshire are routine. You access your container by appointment with 24 hours' notice, weekdays and Saturdays. Both yards are monitored, alarmed, and fenced.

Cheap storage in Dorset, what does it cost?

Our containerised storage is priced by the container, not by guesswork. A standard wooden timber-frame container holds the contents of a 1-bed flat, or about 250 cubic feet. That works out at £25 a week or £100 a month with insurance included. Collection and re-delivery are quoted separately as a fixed price based on your distance from the yard. Past a one-month stay we tend to be cheaper than the self-storage chains, because you're not paying for a roller-door unit you only open once a month. Six- and twelve-month commitments unlock a longer-term rate.

Climate-stable storage without the HVAC markup

If you've searched "climate controlled storage facilities near me," it's usually because you've got furniture, books, art or instruments that you don't want sitting in damp or condensation for months. Our containers are wooden timber-frame, sealed and stacked under cover, which gives you the practical benefits a steel shipping container can't: stable internal temperature through both summer and winter, breathable timber walls that don't sweat condensation onto the contents, and a dry yard with airflow rather than a sealed metal box. We don't run an HVAC-controlled humidity room, so we won't claim "climate-controlled" the way a specialist archive facility can. For most domestic contents (sofas, dining tables, bedroom furniture, books, framed art, packed china), the wooden-container setup is what you actually want, and you're not paying the climate-controlled premium for a benefit you don't need.

Storage units with boxes, packing materials included

If you need a storage unit with boxes already inside, whether that's for a combined pack-and-store job, a probate clearance, or a between-moves stop, we supply the double-walled cardboard boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, blankets, and labels. The first 50 boxes are included in the storage rate. Anything beyond that is at cost. Because the same crew that loads your container can also pack it for you, you're not co-ordinating between a packing service, a removal firm, and a storage company.

Outside storage units for vehicles, garden equipment and business stock

For vehicles, trailers, garden equipment, motorhomes, business stock, and anything else that won't fit a standard wooden container, we offer outside storage. The site is fenced hardstanding at our Shaftesbury yard with CCTV monitoring. £15 a week for a single bay, with longer-term rates on application. Common uses we see: caravans through the off-season, trade vehicles between contracts, garden machinery during a house sale, and overflow business stock. Insurance can be added or arranged separately depending on what the item's worth.

By town

Storage near me, by town

Where customers most often ask us for storage. Each town runs from the same wooden-container model, the same insurance, and the same fixed pricing. The differences come down to travel band and routing.

Storage Dorchester

Storage Dorchester customers usually come to us for between-move stops, business stock overflow, and downsizing situations where the new property isn't ready. We sit 22 miles north-east of Dorchester via the A37 and A352, with weekly runs into DT1 and the villages around it. Containerised storage from £100 a month, collected from your old address and delivered to the new one as a single fixed-price job. If a probate or end-of-tenancy clearance needs to run alongside the storage, we handle that under one schedule with the same crew.

Storage Yeovil

Yeovil storage runs out of our Henstridge, BA8 yard, six miles east of Yeovil. The patterns we see most: family upsize moves stalled by chain delays, RNAS Yeovilton service-family postings, and student turnover from Yeovil College and the wider BA20 to BA22 catchment. Pricing matches the rest of the patch (£25 a week or £100 a month per standard container), with same-day collection from Yeovil normally available because the yard sits inside the BA8 catchment.

Removals in Yeovil

Storage Salisbury

Salisbury sits 17 miles north-east of our Shaftesbury yard via the A30, which puts the SP1 to SP5 catchment (Bishopdown, Harnham, and the surrounding villages) inside our regular weekly route. Cathedral Close listed-property moves are a recurring pattern: we pack carefully, move the contents into containerised storage, and re-deliver once renovation work completes. Wiltshire Council parking suspensions for the cathedral approach can take two weeks to arrange, so the longer the lead time the smoother the day works out.

Removals in Salisbury

Storage Bournemouth

Bournemouth storage runs from our Shaftesbury yard on the back of weekly Bournemouth routes we already drive. Collection and delivery covers BH1 through BH9 plus the Poole conurbation. Patterns we see most: retirement downsizers who've sold the family home before the seafront flat is ready, between-tenancies storage for student lets around the universities, and probate clearances where the contents need to wait somewhere secure while a sale completes.

Storage Weymouth

Weymouth storage covers DT3, DT4, and DT5 from our Shaftesbury yard, 32 miles south via the A37 and A354. The work splits between coastal property moves, retirement downsizing into seafront flats, and seasonal storage for second-home owners on the Jurassic Coast. Portland causeway weather closures and Weymouth Carnival weekend in mid-August are the two events that move our scheduling, both worth flagging at quote stage.

How it works

From quote to settle-in

  1. 01

    Combined removal + storage quote

Tell us roughly what's going to storage and for how long. We quote both the removal and the storage in one written number, emailed within two working hours.

  2. 02

Pack at yours, pack at our yard

Move day: we load at your old place. The truck comes back to Gillingham; we transfer your contents into a sealed container. Or pack direct from your home into the container if it's a no-onward-move scenario.

  3. 03

    Stored, sealed, monitored

Container goes into the secure yard. We send you a contents-summary photo of the seal in place. Weekly billing starts; pay by direct debit or invoice.

  4. 04

    Out when you're ready

Tell us when and where the contents need to go. 24-48 hours' notice for most jobs. We pull your container, load the truck and deliver to the new address. Most onward deliveries inside Dorset / Somerset / Wiltshire happen the day after you call.

Frequent questions

What people ask about Storage

From £30 per week per container at our Shaftesbury yard for short-term needs (a few weeks between completion dates). Longer-term contracts (3+ months) drop to around £25/week. Each container holds the contents of roughly a 2-3 bed home, so for a 1-bed flat we'd usually quote a half-container at £20/week. Quoted alongside your removal so you only deal with one company and one bill.

Yes, secure perimeter, monitored on-site, alarmed containers, restricted-access yard. Your contents go into a sealed timber container at our Shaftesbury yard, the seal stays on until you ask us to break it. We carry £2.5m public liability insurance and goods stored on our premises are covered against fire, water and theft as standard.

By appointment, yes, usually with 24 hours' notice so we can pull your container to ground level for easy access. Most customers don't need access during their storage period, so we keep the containers stacked to save you money. If you need self-access daily, a self-storage facility is a better fit than us, we'll happily point you to one in the area.

Yes, items in our containers are covered against fire, water damage and theft as standard, up to a per-container value we agree at the start. For higher-value contents (antiques, art, anything over £50,000) we can extend cover. The insurance certificate ships with your storage quote so you can see the limits before you commit.

One week minimum, no maximum. Short-term storage between completion dates is one of our most common scenarios, pay for what you use, no penalty for ending early or extending. Longer-term storage (3+ months) gets a small discount on the weekly rate.

Self-storage (Big Yellow, Safestore, etc.) suits you if you need daily access, want to drive your own van to the unit, and prefer per-square-foot pricing. Containerised storage (us) suits you if you're storing the contents of a home between moves, don't need daily access, and want the convenience of one company doing the removal AND the storage. We're cheaper for full-home volumes; self-storage is cheaper for single rooms or small loads with frequent access.

Our standard timber containers stay dry and ventilated; for ordinary household contents (furniture, boxed kitchenware, beds, sofas) that's plenty. For art, antiques, musical instruments, or anything with sensitive electronics, we recommend a climate-controlled facility, we'll point you to a partner facility in the area and combine the removal logistics if useful.

Honest answer: from £30 per week per timber container at our Shaftesbury yard, no deposit, no padlock fee, no minimum-term contract. A typical 3-bed home fits inside two containers; a 1-bed flat or studio usually fits in half a container. Compared to the bigger national self-storage chains (Big Yellow, Safestore) we're 30–50% cheaper because we run a single small site rather than a 24/7 staffed retail facility, and because most of our storage customers are also using us for their removal, we offer combined pricing that drops the storage cost further. Quoted in writing within two working hours. £50k goods-in-transit cover applies to the move-in and move-out legs; secure, monitored, alarmed throughout the storage period.

From £25 a week or £100 a month per standard wooden container, the same rate whether you're in Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Yeovil, Salisbury, Dorchester, Bournemouth or anywhere else inside our 25-mile radius. A standard container holds the contents of a 1-bed flat (about 250 cubic feet); larger homes typically need 2-3 containers and bulk rates apply. Collection and re-delivery are quoted as a fixed price separately based on your distance from the yard. Quoted in writing within two working hours.

Packing

Full or part, proper materials, careful crew

Marley Moves runs full and part packing services across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, with proper materials and a methodical room-by-room approach. We use proper materials throughout: acid-free tissue for crockery and ornaments, double-walled boxes labelled by room, bubble wrap and foam for art and electronics, double-walled crates for the most fragile pieces, blanket-wrap on every item of furniture. Most customers add part packing for the kitchen and breakables (the bits where things go wrong if you do it yourself in the last 48 hours) and self-pack the books, clothes and bedding. Full packing, entire house, is offered for time-pressed moves, families who simply don't have the bandwidth, and properties with serious antique or art content. Pricing depends on volume: typically £100 – £700 added to a standard removal. Quoted in writing within two working hours.

House Clearances

Sensitive, licensed, properly insured

Marley Moves runs sensitive house clearances across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, probate, downsizing, end-of-tenancy, post-bereavement, hoarder-property situations. We hold an Upper Tier Waste Carriers Licence with the Environment Agency (so we can legally remove and tip waste, many cheaper outfits can't), and we route donatable items to our regular charity partners (Sue Ryder, Salvation Army, Air Ambulance) rather than straight to landfill. Probate clearances are a substantial part of what we do, we work to the executor's or solicitor's timeline, photograph rooms before starting, identify items the family wants kept or rehomed, and only landfill what genuinely can't be saved. Free pre-clearance visit before any quote, so the price reflects what you actually want cleared rather than a worst-case estimate from photographs. Most jobs run a single day; bigger probate properties (4-5 bed, decades of accumulation) split across two.

House Removals

Fixed-price written quotes in 2 hours

Marley Moves is a Dorset house removals company, family-run from our yard in Shaftesbury, SP7, with a Henstridge yard in Somerset, BA8. We move studios to 5-bed family homes across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, plus UK-wide long-distance removals from Dorset to anywhere from London to the Lake District. You speak to Connor directly from the first call to the keys-in-hand at the new place. Most of our work clusters in a triangle between Shaftesbury, Sherborne and Warminster, with regular runs out to Salisbury, Bath, Bournemouth and Poole. We're not the cheapest Dorset removal company, though we're typically 10–25% under the national-chain quote, and we're not BAR registered. What we are: properly insured, properly equipped, on time. That consistency is what every five-star Google review on this site is built on.
