Most of Wiltshire is nearer to somebody else's yard than to ours, and it is worth saying that before you read any further. Swindon sits the better part of forty miles north of Salisbury, and Salisbury is already as far east as we go on a regular basis. The part we do cover, most weeks rather than occasionally, is the south-western corner of the county: Salisbury out along the A30, Warminster north up the A350, Mere eight miles along the B3092, and the villages that sit between the three. What a yard just outside the county actually buys you
Being based outside Wiltshire only matters if the yard is a long way off, and ours is not. Shaftesbury sits on both the A30 and the A350, close to where Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire meet, so a Salisbury job, a Warminster job and a Mere job are each reached without a long empty run at the start of the day and another one at the end. That is not a detail. Dead mileage is what turns a sensible price into an awkward one, and it is why a firm two counties away quotes high for your address and hopes you say yes anyway. Inside this corner we take the whole job rather than part of it, from a straightforward three-bed house removal on the Bishopdown side of Salisbury to piano and specialist handling in a listed house, and long-distance work runs out of the same yard when a Wiltshire move finishes somewhere else entirely. The plain, the A36 and the one council that covers all three towns
Wiltshire is a single authority for our purposes, which genuinely helps. The four district councils, Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury and West Wiltshire, were abolished on 1 April 2009 and Wiltshire Council has been unitary ever since, so the same parking rules and the same bay suspension process apply whether you are loading on Castle Street in Salisbury or off Boot Hill in Warminster. Fourteen days is the notice the council asks for on a suspension, and it is why a central address needs its date settled early rather than the week before. Swindon is the exception, a separate unitary authority of its own, and it sits outside what we cover. Geography sorts out the rest. Salisbury Plain takes up the middle of the county and most of it is a Ministry of Defence training area managed by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, so the sensible way round is the A36 to the south and west rather than a line straight across. The A36 is the Southampton to Bath trunk road and it carries most of our Salisbury and Warminster work. The A303 runs along the top of the patch past Mere and is the road long-distance loads leave on, though the Stonehenge tunnel that was meant to fix its worst section was cancelled by the government in July 2024, so the single carriageway stretches are a permanent part of planning anything heading east. Worth knowing before anybody books a lorry near Salisbury: the railway bridge carrying the line over the A36 at Wilton was struck eleven times in the 2023 to 2024 reporting year and sits in Network Rail's national top ten, so we size the vehicle to the route rather than to the load. Packing, house clearance and storage all book alongside the move as one job, and probate clearances out in the downs villages are steady work.

The garrisons on the plain, and the moves they generate
A good share of household moving in this part of Wiltshire is not people changing house so much as people changing posting. Project Allenby/Connaught covers army garrisons at Tidworth, Bulford, Larkhill, Perham Down and Warminster, and the Ministry of Defence puts the accommodation across those sites and Aldershot at 18,700 soldiers. The Army Basing Programme relocated around 4,300 service personnel and their families into the Salisbury Plain area on top of that, with more than 900 new service family homes at Bulford, Larkhill and Ludgershall. Warminster's own garrison at Waterloo Lines is home to the Land Warfare Centre. In practice that means a fair number of the moves we quote here have a date set by an assignment rather than by a completion, an address at the far end that is nowhere near Wiltshire, and a gap in the middle where the next quarter is not ready. The last two are ordinary work for us: long-distance runs from the same yard with the same crew at both ends, and container storage handled entirely by us for the gap.

Do you cover the whole of Wiltshire?
We cover a substantial part of south and west Wiltshire from our SP7 base near Shaftesbury, but we do not claim every Wiltshire postcode automatically. Mere, Warminster and Salisbury are established routes, and we also quote towns such as Tisbury, Wilton, Amesbury, Westbury, Trowbridge, Bradford-on-Avon, Melksham and Devizes. For addresses further north or towards Swindon, send us both postcodes and we will confirm whether the route makes sense for the date.
Which Wiltshire postcodes do you actually cover?
Our regular Wiltshire work includes SP1 and SP2 around Salisbury and the southern BA12 area around Mere and Warminster, with additional routes through south and west Wiltshire. Postcode districts cover large areas, so we price from the actual origin and destination rather than using an outcode as a boundary.
Do you handle service family moves around Salisbury Plain?
Yes, and they are a regular part of the work here. Salisbury alone carries 641 listed buildings on the National Heritage List, thirty-eight of them Grade I, and plenty of what we load in the city centre and the older villages sits inside a conservation area. The handling is the job rather than the mileage: runner mats, door guards, a smaller vehicle where the street or the gateway decides it, and the awkward item measured against the real doorway before move day. Can you store our things between the two moves?
