Removals in Somerset
The A303 is the line Somerset organises itself around, and it is a short run up the A350 from our Shaftesbury yard to join it. Three of the five towns on this page hang off that corridor: Wincanton sits on it, Bruton just north of it, and Yeovil out on the A30 running roughly parallel a few miles to the south. Frome and Bath are the other half of the county, reached by going north on the A350 rather than west on the A303, which is a different road network and a different kind of day. Which half a Somerset address sits in is the first thing we settle on a quote, because it sets the vehicle, the crew size and what time the van leaves Shaftesbury.

Why us, here
What a Somerset removal company has to get right
Four of the five towns here sit under Somerset Council, which has run the whole county as one unitary authority since 1 April 2023, when Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton and South Somerset were abolished. There is no district council left to apply to. Bath is the exception, because it belongs to Bath and North East Somerset, a separate unitary with its own rules, and that difference shows up on move day. Somerset Council asks for a parking waiver at least five working days ahead and will consider a later one without guaranteeing it. B&NES adds a short notice charge inside nine working days, at a reduced rate when the job is a residential house move, and wants payment four working days before. We handle that paperwork as part of the booking. The rest of the job is the same at either end of the county: house removals across all five towns, packing done in full or in part, secure storage held on the same booking rather than through a second supplier, and house clearances taken on alongside a move where a property has to be emptied as well.
Local knowledge
What the A303 does to a Somerset moving day
The Sparkford to Ilchester upgrade opened in November 2024 and dualled three and a half miles between Sparkford and Podimore roundabout, which took one long standing pinch point out of the middle of a Yeovil or Ilchester day. It did not fix the road. National Highways still counts over 35 miles of single carriageway across the A303 and A358 corridor and describes those stretches as congestion bottlenecks, particularly in the summer months and at weekends, and the dual carriageway running west from Ilchester ends again at South Petherton. So a southern Somerset job is quoted on a departure time as much as on a distance, and the date matters nearly as much as the address. The northern half of the county behaves differently. Frome and Bath are a long steady trunk run rather than a road that can go wrong in ten minutes, but Bath is the only town on this page inside a charging Clean Air Zone, and that zone charges commercial vehicles every day of the year while never charging a private car, so a lorry can pick up a cost your own car would not. Awkward single items get settled the same way, in advance. A piano, a safe or a large piece of art is specialist removals work with its own crew and kit, and it is looked at during the survey rather than discovered on the morning.

Long distance removals out of Somerset
The same road that can cost you an hour inside the county on a July Saturday is what makes leaving it straightforward. The A303 runs from the M3 south of Basingstoke to the A30 near Honiton, so a Somerset load is on a trunk route in both directions from the moment the doors shut. Yeovil to London, Bath to the North West, Frome towards Bristol or the South East are all routes we run regularly and price as one fixed figure for the route rather than by the hour. On a long distance job the crew that loads in Somerset is the crew that unloads at the other end, so nothing changes hands halfway up the country and nobody has to explain the job twice.

Pricing
What does a Somerset house removal cost?
Nothing on this page carries a price, because a Somerset move is not one job. Three things set the figure anywhere: the size of the property, the access at both ends, and how much of the packing you want us to do. In this county there is a fourth. Which side of the A303 an address sits on changes the length of the day, and a Bath or Frome job can carry a parking waiver fee or a Clean Air Zone charge on top of the move itself. All of that is worked out before you see a number, and the number comes back in writing within the hour. Man and van work is priced the same way, as a fixed figure for a single room, a studio or one heavy item, rather than a meter running from the moment we arrive.

Frequent questions
What people ask about moving in Somerset
Are you a Somerset removal company?
Marley Moves is an independent family-run removals company operating from our SP7 base near Shaftesbury and treating South Somerset as a core service area rather than an occasional long-distance trip. We quote the move from the actual addresses, access and volume, and the work is carried out by our in-house team rather than handed to another removal company.
Which Somerset towns do you cover?
Our Somerset coverage includes Wincanton, Bruton, Yeovil, Frome and Bath, together with towns and villages such as Templecombe, Milborne Port, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet, Somerton, Crewkerne and Street. Coverage is not limited to places that already have a dedicated page, so send us both postcodes if your town or village is not listed yet.
Which council do I deal with for parking on a Somerset move?
Somerset Council for Yeovil, Wincanton, Bruton and Frome, and Bath and North East Somerset for Bath. They are separate unitary authorities with different lead times and different charges, which is why a Bath waiver and a Frome waiver are not booked the same way. We apply for whichever one the job needs as part of the booking.
Is Bath part of your Somerset coverage?
Yes. Bath is in the historic county and it is on our regular run, even though it is administered by Bath and North East Somerset rather than Somerset Council. It is the furthest of the five towns from the yard at thirty four miles and the only one inside a charging Clean Air Zone, so a Bath day is planned with more in it than a Wincanton one. It is priced on the same basis as everything else.
How much does a Somerset house move cost?
We price the job rather than a tier, so what we need from you is both postcodes, a rough size and your ideal date. From that we can usually give you a figure straight away. Larger properties get a free pre move survey first, because a Bath first floor flat and a Yeovil house with a drive are very different days even at the same number of rooms, and we would rather find that out before the price than after it.
Do you do long distance removals out of Somerset?
Yes. Yeovil to London, Bath to the North West and Frome towards Bristol or the South East are all regular runs. Most are a single day with an early start, and where the distance or the volume makes that unrealistic we say so in the quote and price the second day in, rather than discovering it at nine at night.
Can you store our things if the dates at both ends do not meet?
Yes. Containerised storage can be quoted alongside a Somerset removal when the dates at each end do not meet, during renovation or while downsizing. Marley Moves manages collection and re-delivery, with the storage charge and the need for separate insurance while goods are stored explained in the written quote.
