House Removals across Dorset, Somerset & Wiltshire
Marley Moves is a family-run Dorset house removals company based at our Shaftesbury, SP7 yard. We move studios through to larger family homes across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, with UK-wide long-distance removals from Dorset. You deal with our in-house team from quote and survey through to moving day, rather than being passed to a subcontractor. Most local work clusters around Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Sherborne and Warminster, with regular runs to Salisbury, Bath, Bournemouth, Poole and the surrounding areas. We focus on clear written pricing, careful handling and planning the access before the day.

What's included
One crew from survey to keys-in-hand
The crew who surveys your move is the crew who packs the van, drives the route, unloads at the other end and reassembles your beds. No subcontractors, no franchise handovers, no "sorry, that wasn't in our notes".
Written quote in your inbox within the hour
Email or WhatsApp, within the hour of your enquiry. The price we put in writing is the price you pay on the day, provided the job we packed for is the job that turns up. No surprise extras on the invoice.
Free in-person pre-move survey
In-person by default. Connor walks the property with you, sees access, stairs, low doorways and awkward items first-hand, and locks in the fixed price on the spot. Every move, regardless of size, not just 3-bed-plus. We'll only fall back to a quick video walk-through if we genuinely can't reach you in person.
Full insurance certificate with every quote
Public liability up to £2.5 million, goods-in-transit cover up to £50,000 per load. Insurance certificate ships with your quote. This is meaningfully higher cover than most local Dorset removers, match it before you compare prices.
Furniture protection materials throughout
Blanket-wrap on every item of furniture, corner protectors on tables and dressers, runner mats for original timber floors, door guards at both ends, sofas wrapped in stretch film for the journey. Included as standard, not an add-on.
Reassembly + settle-in at the new place
Beds rebuilt, sofas in position, dining tables back together, boxes in the right rooms. We walk through with you before we leave so you sleep in your own bed that night, not on a half-built mattress.
Near you
Looking for house removals near me, here's what our patch covers
When customers search "removals near me" or "house removals near me," what they actually want is a removal company that can get to them inside the same working day, knows their roads, and isn't going to drive an hour out of patch before billing the clock. Our local-rate band is a 25-mile radius from our yard in Shaftesbury, SP7, covering eleven core towns, and we run regular routes to five more beyond it. Most jobs are surveyable same-day and most quotes are sent in writing within the hour. The closest towns to the yard, all under 15 miles, are Shaftesbury, Gillingham, Mere, Wincanton, Blandford Forum, Bruton and Sherborne. Beyond the 25-mile band we run regular routes into Poole, Dorchester, Bournemouth, Bath and Weymouth, each on a recurring slot rather than a one-off van-hire arrangement, which is what keeps the cost honest against far-flung firms. If you're inside that radius, we're a near-me removal company in the literal sense: a Dorset family business with the yard a postcode away. If you're outside the radius, we'll still quote honestly, with the extra mileage shown as a separate line so there's no surprise on the day.

Free fixed quote
Like the sound of us?
We send every quote back within the hour. It is usually fixed straight away; if a survey is needed, we confirm the fixed price afterwards. Pick whichever bit fits your pace.
How it works
How a house removal works, from quote to settle-in
- 01
Free in-person pre-move survey
A free survey is available where it will improve the quote or the move plan. For larger homes, awkward access or specialist items we usually recommend one; it can be in person locally or by video. Smaller straightforward moves can often be quoted from photos and the information you send us.
- 02
Written quote within the hour
By email or WhatsApp, with the insurance certificate attached and a clear inventory of what's included. Quote stays valid for 30 days, and if your completion date slips beyond that we re-quote rather than leave you guessing.
- 03
Pre-move plan + packing
Date confirmed, parking permits sorted, packing materials delivered if you're self-packing. Or we pack for you (full or part) starting up to 3 days before move day.
- 04
Move day, end to end
Our in-house crew arrives with the agreed plan, protects and loads your belongings, travels to the new address and unloads into the rooms you specify. Furniture that we have agreed to dismantle is reassembled where included in the quote, followed by a final walk-through before we leave.
House removal pricing
How much does a house removal cost?
House removal pricing tracks three things: the volume you're moving (number of rooms + how packed they are), the access at both ends (loading bays, parking restrictions, stair carries, listed-building handling), and the distance between origin and destination. Because those three vary so much house to house, we price the job rather than publish a tier table: tell us the rough size and both postcodes and the exact figure is fixed in writing within the hour. Between-completion-date storage and combined removal-plus-clearance jobs are quoted alongside the move. Long-distance moves to London, Bristol, Birmingham or further north are quoted as a fixed price per route after a free pre-move survey. Every Marley quote includes our £2.5m public liability and £50k goods-in-transit cover, and never changes on the day. We quote honestly: if your move needs two crew rather than three, we'll tell you and price accordingly. There's no hidden fuel surcharge, no last-minute "you didn't mention the piano" markup, and no minimum first-hour padding, the number we put in writing is the number you pay.

Booking your move
How much notice do you need to book a house removal?
The honest answer is that it depends on the time of year as much as the size of the move. For most local moves inside our patch we can often work at short notice, a week or sometimes just a few days, because we run our own crew and control our own diary rather than waiting on a subcontractor. What tightens up fast is the end of the month, and the last Friday in particular, when most completions land and every remover in the area is busy at once. Summer and the run-up to Christmas fill earliest. If your date is already fixed, the sooner you book it in writing the better your chance of the slot you actually want. If your completion date is still moving, that is completely normal, and we plan around it: we hold your fixed written quote for 30 days, and if your completion slips beyond that we will re-quote rather than leave you guessing. Not sure where your move sits in the calendar? Call Connor on 01747 637070 and we will tell you honestly what is realistic for your date, with no pressure to commit before you are ready.
Frequent questions
What people ask about House Removals
It depends on size and access rather than a flat rate: a 1-bed flat, a 3-bed family home and a 4-5 bed house are very different days, and stairs, parking and packing all move the figure. Long-distance UK moves from Dorset (London, Bristol, the Midlands) are quoted as a fixed price per route depending on volume and destination. We always confirm the exact figure in writing within the hour of your enquiry.
Within the hour of your enquiry, by email or WhatsApp. For 3-bed-plus homes we'll suggest a free pre-move survey (10 minutes on a video call, or in-person if you prefer) so the price we put in writing is the price you pay on the day. No estimator-tool guesswork, no quote that drifts upward as we get closer to move day.
Yes, listed-building and period-property removals are a substantial part of our Dorset work. We bring runner mats for original timber floors, door guards for painted period frames, blanket-wrap as standard for antique furniture, and we'll spec the right (smaller) vehicle for tight historic-street access. Examples: Cheap Street Sherborne, Gold Hill Shaftesbury, the Bath Georgian crescents, Bruton's Patwell Street. None of those are unfamiliar territory.
All of Dorset, plus Somerset and Wiltshire, 16 core towns with regular routes: Gillingham, Shaftesbury, Sherborne, Blandford Forum, Dorchester, Weymouth, Bournemouth, Poole (Dorset); Yeovil, Wincanton, Bruton, Frome, Bath (Somerset); Mere, Warminster, Salisbury (Wiltshire). Plus the rural villages around each. Outside that band we run UK-wide long-distance moves from Dorset to anywhere, London, Bristol, the Midlands, the Lake District, Cornwall, Scotland.
Yes, long-distance from Dorset is a regular service. Common destinations: London, Bristol, the Midlands, Yorkshire, the Lake District, Cornwall, Scotland. One in-house Marley crew end-to-end (no handover at a depot), fixed price per route, free pre-move survey offered on every move and recommended for 3-bed-plus. Most long-distance moves complete in a single day; multi-day moves use our crew overnighting at the destination so the same hands unload the next morning.
Yes. We provide safe, secure containerised storage that can be quoted alongside your removal, whether you need a short gap between completion dates or a longer stay. Access is by appointment. Our goods-in-transit cover applies while we are moving your belongings; insurance for goods while they are in storage should be arranged separately unless we confirm otherwise in writing.
Yes, full or part packing as an add-on to any house removal. Crockery, art, glassware, antiques: proper materials throughout (acid-free tissue, double-walled crates for the most fragile, blanket-wrap on furniture). Most customers add part packing for the kitchen and the breakables and self-pack everything else. Pricing depends on volume and is set out as its own line on your written quote.
Yes, see the 8-week countdown on our /removals/ hub page. Short version: 8 weeks out, get 2-3 written quotes and sort buildings + contents insurance for the new place. 4 weeks out, book us in writing and notify utilities. 2 weeks out, sort parking permits + post redirection. 1 week out, finish all packing except kitchen and bathroom; pack a clearly-labelled essentials box for night one.
Yes. Full and part packing is available with every house removal, so we are the Dorset home packers as well as the movers on the day. Our crew brings the boxes, paper and protective materials, packs everything from kitchens to fragile china and antiques, and unpacks at the other end if you want. Packing can be quoted on its own or rolled into your removal price, with the quote in writing within the hour.

Full or part, proper materials, careful crew
Marley Moves provides full and part packing services across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire, using a methodical room-by-room approach and appropriate protective materials. Crockery and ornaments are wrapped carefully, boxes are labelled by room, and furniture is protected for the journey. Many customers ask us to handle the kitchen, glassware and other fragile items while they pack books, clothes and bedding themselves. Full packing is available when time is tight or when a home contains a larger volume of fragile, antique or specialist items. Packing is quoted clearly as part of, or alongside, the removal.
Learn more →House Clearances
Sensitive, licensed, properly insured
Marley Moves provides sensitive house clearances across Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire for probate, downsizing, end-of-tenancy, post-bereavement and hoarder-property situations. We agree what must be kept before work begins, separate usable items for donation where appropriate, recycle what we can and use licensed disposal routes for genuine waste. Probate and estate clearances are planned around the executor’s or solicitor’s timetable, with photographs and family-kept items handled carefully. Where a visit is useful, we inspect the property before quoting so the written price reflects the access, volume and agreed scope. Many clearances are completed in a day; larger properties can take longer.
