Same-day man and van: when it works, when it doesn't
Emergency moves happen. Here's how to book a same-day man and van and what to expect on price.
Sometimes the move has to happen today. Landlord dispute, relationship ending, a flat-sale completing faster than expected. Same-day moves are possible — but they cost more and the rules are different.
When same-day works
Small loads. One or two rooms. Short distances (under 30 miles). Things that can be lifted by two people. No fragile glass cabinets. Parking available at both ends.
When same-day doesn't work
Full house moves. Anything needing disassembly. Anything requiring parking suspensions (those take 3–5 working days). Long distances. Moves involving specialist items like pianos.
For these, a next-day or week-ahead booking is almost always achievable.
What you'll pay
Same-day pricing is typically 25–40% above a pre-booked rate. The crew is coming off another job or staying later than planned, so that surcharge is real — not markup.
Call rather than email. Same-day decisions don't survive a form inbox.
How to make it go smoothly
Have everything packed before the crew arrives. They won't have packing crates with them unless you asked.
Make parking available at both ends — block a space with a car if you have to.
Disassemble anything that needs taking apart yourself. Same-day crews don't bring tools.
Be realistic about volume. A '2-bed flat' often fills two Luton vans once you count the shed.
