What Happens Before, During and After Moving Day
A practical look at the stages of a professionally managed move, from the first survey to getting the beds back together at the new home.
A professionally managed move starts well before the van arrives. The useful way to think about it is as a sequence: understand the job, agree the plan, prepare the property, move everything safely, then leave the new home usable that evening.
1. Start with the survey, not the loading day
The survey is where access, stairs, awkward furniture, parking and the actual volume of belongings are identified. Marley Moves offers an in-person survey by default across its local area, with video or photos used when they make more sense. That information is what turns a rough enquiry into a properly scoped move.
2. Get the plan and price in writing
Once the job is understood, the written quote should make clear what is included. Marley Moves sends its quote by email or WhatsApp and includes the agreed scope, so the customer knows what the crew is planning for before the date is booked.
3. Sort packing, parking and access before the day
The smoothest moving days are usually decided in advance. Packing materials need to be ready, parking restrictions need to be understood and any items needing extra handling should already be on the plan. If Marley is packing, full or part packing can be arranged before move day.
4. Protect the property before furniture starts moving
Before the main lift begins, protection goes down where it is needed. Marley uses furniture blankets, corner protection, floor runners and door protection as part of the move rather than treating protection as an afterthought.
5. Loading is only half the job
At the new property, the aim is not simply to empty the van. Furniture needs to go into the right rooms, key pieces need reassembling and boxes need placing where they will actually be useful. 6. The best finish is a liveable first night
A good move finishes with the essentials usable: beds rebuilt, main furniture positioned and the important boxes in the right rooms. That is a more useful definition of finished than an empty van.
