A day in the life: what a Marley Moves crew actually does
Behind the scenes of a typical move day — 5am start, long lift, settle-in.
People ask what movers actually do all day. Mostly, it's this.
05:30
Crew lead arrives at the Shaftesbury yard. Van is pre-prepped from the night before. Coffee. Paperwork check — customer details, access notes, post-move delivery instructions.
06:00
Crew assembled. Three of us today. Quick brief: moving family from Shaftesbury to Warminster, 3-bed, no packing needed, completion keys available from 10am.
06:45
On site. Customer not up yet (early even for her). Front garden walk for access and parking. Floor runners down, corner guards on doorways. Padding out the van.
07:30
Start loading. Lighter rooms first, then kitchen, then bedrooms, then fragile last.
11:00
Van loaded. Customer does final walk-through, checks nothing is missed. Hand-over of keys. On the road.
12:15
Arrive at new property. Meet customer there. Walk the floor plan. Agree where furniture goes.
12:30
Unloading begins. Beds go up first (so kids can sleep there tonight if they run late). Kitchen next, then living room, then remaining rooms.
15:45
Last box in. Furniture placed, rubbish collected, packing materials taken away. Customer signs off.
16:30
Back at yard. Van cleaned, re-stocked with tape and paper, ready for tomorrow. Paperwork filed.
17:15
Home.
The pattern
Most move days run 9–12 hours door-to-door. Crews alternate physical and thinking work — protection and prep is careful and slow, loading is fast and heavy, driving is quiet. It's good work if you like being outside and solving problems all day.
