Furniture removals in Gillingham: single pieces, whole houses, and everything in between
Moving a wardrobe, a grand piano, or a full dining set? Here's how furniture-specific removals actually work.
Not every move is a full house. Sometimes it's the wardrobe you inherited from your grandmother. Sometimes it's a three-piece suite going to your daughter's first flat. Sometimes it's a single antique sideboard that needs handling like it's worth what it's actually worth.
This post covers how furniture-only removals are priced, what to look out for, and when to use a full removal service vs. a man and van.
Man and van versus full removal: which do you need?
For one-off furniture runs, a man and van service is usually the right call. You get a fixed-price quote in writing before the day, the crew brings a Luton van, and the whole job is sized to the task.
For larger furniture jobs, say emptying a parent's house of valuable pieces, or moving a full dining set across the country, a full removal quote is often cheaper because it's priced on the job, not the clock.
Protecting furniture in transit
Furniture blankets, corner guards, and proper strapping are the difference between arriving in one piece and arriving with a chip on the corner. Any crew worth booking will have all three as standard.
For high-value items like antiques, marquetry, veneers and glass tops, you want someone who'll wrap each piece individually, pad between items, and strap against the van walls. Not a quick throw-in.
Disassembly and reassembly
Large wardrobes, bed frames, and sectional sofas often need taking apart to get through doorways or up staircases. Ask upfront if disassembly is included or charged separately.
Keep the screws. Tape them to the frame. Your future self will thank you.
Insurance for single items
If the item is worth more than a few thousand pounds, check the per-item limit on the goods-in-transit policy before you book. Some insurers cap individual items at £500 or £1,000 unless declared separately. For anything precious, declare it.
